Jouer (“to play” in French) marks a transition point in my work where I have felt too serious and heavy in my work for a long time. Now is a time for remembering to loosen up, to explore, and to have fun and play. I am remembering to find joy in the process again, both in the painting and in my life. I listened to a lot of jazz while painting this piece, often on sunny days with sunlight beaming into the room. It will always remind me of the summer of 2025, and it is a meaningful start to a new chapter in my career.
The original painting is 30x30" and will be featured in the auction for the Rutherford Arts Alliance fundraiser. 30% of the proceeds will go to the RAA.
